We can even provide seniors nail care and are prepared to undertake home visits where necessary. To make an appointment with one of our sympathetic team, call us on
0141 5623082 or use the form on the contact page.

Biomechanics

Often the root causes of pain can be associated with dysfunctional anatomy. We assess clients with functional anatomical problems including excessive pronation, ‘flat feet’, heel pain, knee and hip pain. We will examine the joints of the foot and lower limb, assess the quality and range of movement, inspect soft tissue structures and isolate the causes of pain or dysfunction.

We use the latest technology to collect data and provide the most detailed biomechanical analysis available within minutes and helps always involve the patient in their assessment.

With the help of orthotic devices, we can help people to walk, run and live life to the full without pain. Suitably qualified professionals like us are best placed to advise you on these issues, and because we are not a 'retailer' the patient is always our first priority.

If you plan on attending for a biomechanical examination please remember to bring;
  • Your favourite/everyday shoes
  • Your running/sports shoes
  • Any previous/old orthoses
  • A pair of shorts
At the end of your assessment a full written report will be made available to you, which will include all findings and copies of any images taken as part of the assessment.

Orthotics

Orthotics can range from very simple, cheap pre-fabricated kits to bespoke lab made orthotics. Orthotic therapies options and prices vary widely, and we will always give the most appropriate advice based on the results of a full biomechanical assessment.

We sell, make and order prescription orthoses for patients who require them and will happily arrange for remakes of previous prescriptions for patients.

We work with multiple leading orthotic labs to provide high quality, durable and lightweight orthoses. These are made using 3D casts of the patient’s feet which enable a fit like no other, often likened to standing in your own footprint. The podiatrist's prescription is then added to the underside (or forming part of the plate) of the orthotic device. Prescription orthotics are often thinner, lighter and last longer than off the shelf insoles.

The use of prescription orthoses will result in changes in loads, pressures and function and encourage improvement in symptoms caused by functional anatomical anomalies.

Routine Treatments

Routine treatments are what the vast majority of our patients will need our help with. Standard treatments cover;
  • Basic nail care
  • Removal of callus
  • Removal of corns
  • Fungal foot problems
  • Footwear advice
If you have a problem which will require more time or multiple visits this will be explained to you prior to the treatment. As part of these treatments you will be offered advice on footwear, the condition of your feet and treatment plans.

Diabetic Foot Care

Diabetes is a massive problem worldwide and is known to have particular prevalence in the west of Scotland. That's why we provide a detailed diabetic foot check for those already diagnosed with the disease.

Diabetes may result decreased sensation in the feet and can cause accelerated hardening of the arteries which supply them, resulting in a greater risk to the feet leading to delayed healing, ulceration and ultimately amputation. Remember, diabetes can affect how you feel pain in your feet, therefore absence of pain does not necessarily mean all is well. If you have any concerns, arrange an assessment with us.

As part of your assessment the podiatrist will take a medical history and enquire how well your diabetes is managed. A comprehensive assessment will be carried out, and the podiatrist will advise you of any findings and provide you with advice where appropriate. Assessments include:
  • Doppler ultrasound
  • Foot pulses
  • 128 Htz vibration perception
  • Neurotip neurological testing
  • 10g Monofilament neurological testing
  • Lazer therometer temperature check
  • Pathological change assessment
  • Risk stratification
You will be advised of any pathological risk such as corns, callus, excessive dry skin, and nail problems. At your request we can forward a written copy of the assessment to your GP for information and for it to be added to your medical records.

Verrucae

We offer a range of verrucae treatments which will be explained to you by the podiatrist. Whichever treatment is used you should remember that most verrucae treatments will involve an element of tissue destruction. This is necessary to destroy the verrucae.

We will normally use:
  • Acid based preparations
  • Caustic applications
  • Cryotherapy
Other treatment methods are available, which are not necessarily suitable for all patients. These include:
  • Surgical excision
  • Verrucae needling
When caustic or acid based preparations are used you should be available to attend for review at set intervals to ensure that you are not having any adverse effects from the treatment. Many find a course of verrucae treatment frustrating because sometimes progress is slow. We may photograph lesions for your records throughout the treatment and to help you monitor progress.

PACT Fungal Treatment

Fungal nails, although embarrassing for many of those who suffer from them are very common and we see these problems every day. Fungal skin infections such as tinea pedis (athletes foot) is also a very common problem. Fungal infections are unrelated to hygiene and can affect anyone. We carry a range of anti-fungal treatments for the nails and skin as well as products for you hosiery and shoes.

What is PACT®?

PACT® is an abbreviation that stands for Photodynamic Antimicrobial Chemotherapy. With this method, bacteria, viruses and fungi can be killed off very effectively on skin surfaces, toenails and fingernails.

Treatment:

PACT is a clinically proven treatment which has repeatedly shown very good efficacy in clinical trial. We cover the affected areas in a dye which makes the micro-organisms sensitive to light and then employ special lights to kill off these micro-organisms.

Three separate treatments are given in the first week, each lasting 10 - 15 minutes per affected toe, followed by weekly follow up treatments for the next 3 weeks. This has been found to provide the best possible outcomes.

Diagnostic Ultrasound

There are two types of ultrasound—diagnostic and therapeutic. Diagnostic ultrasound is a non-invasive soft tissue imaging technique that can be used to help with diagnosis and injection placement. Therapeutic ultrasound can be used to help with treatment of soft tissue problems.

Ultrasound uses a special hand-piece or probe that emits sound waves into body tissues. When these sound waves collide with body tissues, the sound waves return to the probe. This is converted to an image to allow us to see structures within the foot and leg. This can aid diagnosis or accurate placement of medicines.

Shockwave Therapy

Extracorporeal radial shockwave therapy, or Shockwave therapy is a multidisciplinary device used in orthopaedics, physiotherapy, sports medicine, urology and veterinary medicine. Its main assets are fast pain relief and mobility restoration. It is a non-surgical therapy with no need for painkillers, and is ideal to speed up recovery and cure acute or chronic pain.

The acoustic waves used in Shockwave therapy interact with tissue causing accelerated tissue repair and cell growth, analgesia and mobility restoration. In many cases, benefits can be felt after the 1st treatment although a course of treatment is normal. The full effects are most noticable up to 8 weeks after the last session.

There are only a handful of shockwave machines in Scotland. We're lucky to have one of only about 20 machines in the whole of Scotland. Being able to provide shockwave not only sets our clinic apart from others, but enables us to provide therapies which can make all the difference when it comes to the treatment of painful conditions.

Home Visiting

We offer senior citizen nail cutting service to our clients. As social foot care no longer forms part of NHS foot care provision in many health boards we offer an affordable, accessible alternative.

Home visits are offered to patients with mobility problems or to those who simply prefer to be treated in the comfort of their own home.

Some treatments are unsuitable for home visits, although many standard procedures can be carried out at home. If you feel you require a home visit please call the clinic on 0141 5623082.

Because we only offer home visiting to G61 & G62 areas, if we are unable to facilitate your request we may refer you to one of our trusted professional partners.

Nail Care/Problems

Nail surgery is offered to patients with recurring in-growing toenails or those with other nail conditions warranting surgical intervention such as chronic involution, trauma or dystrophic nails. All procedures are carried out under local anaesthetic, and all surgical procedures are performed under strict aseptic conditions, minimising the risk of infection.

If required, nail surgery can often be carried out within a few days of initial consultation. NHS waiting lists often take weeks. By choosing private care means you can be seen within days rather than weeks.

Prior to the procedure you will be fully assessed, the procedure will be explained including the risks and benefits. If you plan to attend for nail surgery there are a few points to remember:
  • You will not be able to drive home following local anaesthetic (please arrange alternative means).
  • Bring open toe shoe/sandals with you.
  • You may need to take some time off work (a day or two is normally adequate, depending on your job).
  • You will need to be available for post operative review and dressing changes at set intervals.
